What is Stenography?
A stenotype reporter, or stenographer, uses a steno machine and a specialized keyboarding language with translation software to produce a raw translation file (unedited). Sometimes we strike only one key at a time; but usually we are using many keys simultaneously, sometimes just stroking out the words phonetically, but usually using brief forms, squeezes, and macros, that write multiple words all at once.
A stenotype reporter learns at a community college or private school offering either a BA or AA degree or certificate, and takes medical, legal, ethics, and grammar classes in addition to learning machine stenography. It is becoming increasingly common that some courses are offered online as well.
